The hero, Ahab, is a man of principle, a gentleman who loses one of his legs at sea as it is battered, crushed and chewed by Moby Dick, the whale. He is determined to avenge his loss of the leg and after a long series of adventures meets the Moby Dick in the open sea and takes it head-on, in utter disregard of his own life and that of his crew as he sails wildly in the Pequod. As their three boats sail out to hunt him, Moby Dick damages two of them, forcing them to go back to the ship. Moby Dick then rams the Pequod itself, which begins to sink. As Ahab harpoons the whale, the unfolding harpoon-line catches him around his neck and as the stricken whale swims away, Ahab is drawn with him out of sight.....
