Which books and which historians were written by which historians were destroyed in this way? The first batch of history textbooks of NCERT were written in the 1960s and 70s. The authors were Romila Thapar, Arjun Deb, RS Sharma, Satish Chandra and Bipan Chandra. These were the books that the Morarji Desai government tried to ban, but the government fell before it could do its job. However, the non-Muslim camp has never hidden its antipathy towards the historians who wrote these books, but has made it clear. They have been accused of being Marxists, leftists, terrorists of academia and intellectual circles and writers of distorted history. Now we need to understand, is a history lesson a reliable history assessed by professional historians, or the work of someone obsessed with creating political fiction? Is it our history, or their history? Whose history?
