Against a background of growing evidence that the world might be headed not for a gradual warming of the air and a rise in sea levels, but abrupt climate change which could make most of the world unlivable in a matter of decades the author explores the technological and economic feasibility of shifting the energy base of society from fossil fuels to renewable sources of energy.
